DURHAM, N.C. -- A learning device or a distraction?

Fidget spinners are a new toy that’s sweeping the nation, and now it’s become the center of a major question that’s left many heads spinning.

The two- or three-pronged gadget rests on your fingers so that you can spin them.

Several schools nationwide have banned fidget spinners from the classroom, but some teachers say they keep students from fidgeting and actually helps them focus.

This year Neal Magnet Middle School in Durham added FitDesks to the classroom to help students stay in motion while they learn.

Several school districts throughout the state say they haven’t had an issue with fidget spinners and fidget cubes, but in most cases teachers have the ability to set their own classroom rules if they see it as a distraction.
