RALEIGH, N.C.-- Hundreds of flights were delayed and cancelled along the East Coast Saturday, due to technical issues at a Federal Aviation Administration Center in Washington, D.C.
Officials say a computer outage limited flight arrivals and departures of every airline.
At Raleigh-Durham International Airport, lines looped around terminal two Saturday afternoon.
“It looked like New York, I mean it was packed like you had never seen it before,” said Kevin Perveiler. He kept up with the flights from a map on his phone, as he waited to see if his daughter would make it on a connector flight to France.
“We've been trying to text her on what's going on with the flights along the whole East Coast, “ he said.
One couple decided to wait until Sunday to head home.
“I could be standing in that line back there for the next three hours, and you know I got someone from Delta on the phone right away and get our flights changed so we can make other plans,” said Louisa Barnhart.
As Barhart dealt with a Delta flight delay, Perveiler hoped his daughter’s time getting aboard does not affect her vacation abroad.
“We just hope that she gets her flight connected and everything goes fine because you know she's been looking forward to this trip for a long time,” he said.
Airport officials say delays could last into Sunday, so they are asking travelers to arrive two hours early. They are also asking traveler to contact their airlines for current flight statuses.
