Sydney McCoy is a multimedia journalist at Spectrum News 1 North Carolina. A North Carolina native, she's excited to report on what’s impacting her home state, and to help North Carolinians share their stories, as she believes everyone has one to tell.
Sydney was also a member of the inaugural class of Spectrum News Fellows.
Sydney always knew she wanted to pursue a career in news; she hosted the morning news announcement in elementary school and was introduced to the local news scene in Raleigh at a young age.
Sydney began her career in sports broadcasting, interning with the Durham Bulls Explorer Post 50 program while in high school, and later working with North Carolina State University and the ACC Network with ESPN during her college studies.
Her passion for sports has already earned her recognition in the broadcasting world, including being honored with the 2019 Durham Family Student Journalist of the Year Award, as well as by sports commentator Wes Durham.
During her senior year at NCSU, Sydney joined Spectrum News 1 in Raleigh for their inaugural fellowship program, where she reported on the local community, produced newscasts, and wrote numerous stories for the Spectrum News mobile app and website. It’s from here that she segued into her current role.
When Sydney is not in the newsroom, she enjoys playing tennis and golf, going on walks, cooking, listening to music and spending time with her cat, Zorro. You can find her on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter, all @SydneyMcCoynews.
