Wintry precipitation started Wednesday across the western portion of the state before making its way east and northeast, and may continue Thursday, officials say.

Icy and snow covered-roads are causing issues for the morning commute Thursday in the parts of North Carolina that saw snow, sleet and freezing rain on Wednesday. Multiple crashes were reported across the state.

Temperatures will stay well below freezing through the morning and through the first half of Thursday. Some of the state could even see additional light snowfall, according to the Spectrum News 1 Weather on the 1's team.

North Carolina Gov. Josh Stein declared a state of emergency ahead of the storm earlier this week.
