RALEIGH, N.C. — The Oscars came early this year. The flower version of it at least.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation handed out its Wildflower Awards this week.
The wildflower program began as a part of the state's highway beautification initiative. The flower beds are planted and maintained by Roadside Environmental personnel across the state's 14 highway divisions. Many of the beds are marked by an NCDOT wildflower sign.
The awards feature one of the most beautiful aspects of our state, and honor the people that conserve them.
