He was deployed to Afghanistan, Japan, the Philippines and Mongolia for more than seven years and was honorably discharged in 2016.

Now, he's on track to obtain a Bachelor of Science in nursing.

“It gives me a place to be myself and be around like-minded individuals," Scott said. "We've almost all been through kind of the same thing. So coming from different aspects of life, we have all branches of the military in this program.”

A little thing he wants others to know about the nursing program is the opportunity it provides for him to take care of his family.

"Medicine in general is my passion, but being able to provide for my family is kind of like a bonus," Scott said.

Scott worked for Veterans Affairs before attending UNC Greensboro. He hopes to become a VA nurse and is set to graduate in May 2023.
