DURHAM, N.C. — School food can be a hit or miss, but one North Carolina school district is doing what they can to ensure it's enjoyable.
- Durham Public Schools holds multiple taste testing sessions for new school food
- Durham schools strive to make food representing more cultures
- DPS cafeteria employees spent their summer learning new recipes and upgrading existing ones
This summer, Durham Public Schools cafeteria employees participated in taste testing events for school staff.
They were able to give feedback on meals ahead of the school year.
One employee who works for the district says that means providing meal options for students representing countless cultures.
That's why they offer such a variety, including everything from simple American mac and cheese and chicken pot pie to Mexican corn and burritos.
“Normally they say the food is bland, but we made it so it would be tasteful so the kids would love it, come back again and keep coming back," Deborah Moramn said.
Students will have the option to choose from two entrees and two veggie sides everyday.
