NORTH CAROLINA — With 21 days until Election Day, officials released new numbers showing just how many mail-in ballots North Carolina voters have sent in.
According the North Carolina State Board of Elections, nearly a half million mail-in ballots have been returned and accepted. There are 7,272,730 registered voters in North Carolina. Here's the breakdown:
- Democratic voters have returned more than 244,000 ballots
- Republican voters have returned 84,000 returned ballots
- Those not affiliated with any party have returned nearly 150,000 mail-in ballots
More Democratic voters requested mail-in ballots overall. Polk and Graham counties ranked in the top two with the highest ballot return rate in the state at around 52 percent.
Crews spent Monday setting up early voting sites all over the state. Voters can begin voting early in person on Thursday.
