RALEIGH, N.C. – Fourteen people were arrested Friday night as protesters gathered in downtown Raleigh to rally against racial injustice and the shooting of Jacob Blake.

The Raleigh Police Department announced in a statement that 14 protesters were arrested after the 10 p.m. curfew.

Before the curfew, protesters gathered at 7 p.m. and began setting fires, damaging property, and threw fireworks at police, according to the police.

A law enforcement monument was defaced, and an American flag was burned.

Wake County Sheriff Gerald Baker said the actions of a few can be unfortunate for the whole.

"No one has a problem with the marching and the protesting…in remembrance of those who have served in this county," Baker said.

The protests are expected to continue Saturday.
