CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- UNC will switch to all-virtual learning on Wednesday.

The school decided this after seeing a COVID-19 outbreak just a week into the fall semester. Multiple clusters were reported at dorms and a fraternity house.

Some students don't see the need to stick around and live in the dorms.

"I'm just going to go back home and continue my semester online there," says Freshman Rishi Kulkarni, who's heading back home to Charlotte.

Other students say they don't mind going back to all-virtual like last spring.

"I mean I only had like two in-person classes anyway, so it wasn't really that big of deal for me," Freshman Claire Chao says.

The university says it will extend the opportunity for students to cancel their housing plans without a penalty. So far, there's no official notice that students must clear the dorms.
