CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Many students won't return to the classroom until at least January.
The Chapel Hill-Carrboro School Board voted to extend virtual learning until 2021, citing rising COVID-19 cases. The district initially planned on virtual learning for at least the first nine weeks of the school year.
"It's very sad. I'm going to be honest. I did not expect, think spending my senior year like this," Eden Baker, 17, says.
Baker attends Chapel Hill High School. She says she has embraced the new way of learning.
"So in the beginning, I was really sad about it. I didn't realize how much I would miss school, and after just like a lot of processing, I found that it's going to be OK," she says.
Her younger brother, Eli, 13, will start his freshman year sitting in front of a computer.
"I kind of wish I was going in physically, just get the full experience, because I do feel like going virtually, I'm probably going to miss out a lot," he says.
