CHAPEL HILL, N.C.  —  UNC’s The Meantime Coffee Co. wants to serve Australians in the wake of the devastating wildfires.

  • The shop is still counting the money raised but believes it hit the $3,000 mark
  • The campaign perked up many customers to buy and help out
  • This is the first time the non-profit coffee shop donated to an off-campus cause

Baristas brewed the idea of donating all of last week’s profits to the relief efforts.

“I think that it’s just very sad to see like all the footage, the millions of animals that have died and people being displaced,” says Student and Chief Marketing Officer Dhvani Bhatia.

Bhatia says the shop is still counting the money raised but believes it hit the $3,000 mark. She says the campaign perked up many customers to buy and help out.

“It’s important because a lot of people are being hurt, like dying. The ecosystem of Australia is being severely affected by these wildfires,” says Freshman Ayana Monroe.

Bhatia says this is the first time the non-profit coffee shop donated to an off-campus cause. She hopes it will continue to do so in the future.
