Chilly high pressure continues to build in from the northwest today. This continues the flow of cold arctic air into the state that first began over this past weekend. After highs in the 30s and 40s this afternoon, lows will plummet below freezing into the low to mid 20s.

Winds tonight will be calmer than last night, so wind chill values will not be as low. But with a northerly breeze at 5 mph, it may still feel like the upper teens overnight and early Tuesday morning.

Temperatures will remain below normal tomorrow. After a frigid start in the low to mid 20s, highs Tuesday will be similar to what we're dealing with today. Expect highs in the Triad to range between the mid to upper 30s. For the Triangle and Sandhill area, expect an afternoon high near 40 degrees.

This trend in chilly, below normal temperatures will likely last through Thursday morning. Winds will eventually shift becoming more southerly, allowing warmer air back into the state. This will eventually return us to normal highs Thursday afternoon, and highs slightly above normal Friday. The only downside to this will be our rain chances.

The end of the week wind shift is in response to our next storm system approaching. This system will likely bring the rain into our area Friday and Saturday. Rain may not be ideal for Friday and the weekend, but at least it will not be as cold.
