DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Chapel’s annual Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration brought people of all backgrounds to Durham.
This year, the topic was “The Power of the People”, with keynote speaker Andrew Gillum. Gillum is the former mayor of Tallahassee and the 2018 Democratic gubernatorial candidate in Florida.
For many, this is an annual tradition. However, a few people attended the event just for the chance to hear Gillum speak.
“That’s why I’m here, because i know Andrew Gillum. He’s a special person and i wanted to support him as much as i can. To hear his speech is going to be a great day for me,” Attendee Todd McPhial said.
Duke is also hosting a conversation with former Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa on Tuesday, January 21 as part of the festivities.
