RALEIGH, N.C. -- A Triangle-area senior said getting to wrap presents again is one of the best parts of her holiday season.
Glenn Barefoot, now 75, wrapped presents at a department store when she was a teenager. Once she left that job, she said she never wrapped again until she moved to a local senior living center last year. As soon as she tried her hand at gift wrapping in the craft room, her skills came back.
“I don't have to do it to earn money now. I can do it just for the joy of it,” she said.
Barefoot said she's picking up new traditions as well. Earlier this week she said many of her neighbors got together with their families to enjoy cookies and hot chocolate around a fire.
Besides establishing new traditions, Barefoot said moving out of her house has made her Christmas season easier.
She said cooking for and hosting her children and grandchildren at Christmas had begun to take a toll on her health. She said she's now able to spend more time on the seasonal activities she enjoys, such as buying and wrapping gifts for her family.
