WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- The eastbound U.S. 70 loop onto I-40 westbound in Garner will close permanently this weekend.

  • The ramp from U.S. 70 EB to I-40 WB in Garner is closing permanently.
  • It will be replaced by a signalized intersection by January 1, 2020.
  • The detour will be to go to Greenfield Parkway and turn around to U.S. 70 west to I-40.

This is the ramp near White Oak shopping center.

According to the Town of Garner, the ramp will close sometime November 3 or into the morning of November 4.

According to NCDOT, a new permanent traffic pattern will be complete by January 1, 2020 that will provide a signalized intersection for a left-turn movement from U.S. 70 east onto the ramp for I-40 westbound.

DOT says the ramp is being closed to eliminate the crisscrossing of vehicles as they get onto and off of I-40 West at that interchange.

The detour route will be to continue on U.S. 70 eastbound to Greenfield Parkway and turn around back to U.S. 70 west to take the ramp onto I-40 westbound.
