FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Another suspect has been named in the Fayetteville State University shooting that left one student injured.
- One person was shot at FSU Monday night.
- Another person was charged Thursday.
- Police stress this was not an active shooter situation.

Rayshawn Vredenburg, 18, is said to have been involved. His charges include attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The shooting happened near Murchison Road and Coley Drive Monday night.
Suspect Codondrea Purdie, 24, told police the shooting was an accident that happened when he and Lavonte Carter, 20, were struggling over the gun. Purdie also alleges that Carter set him up to be robbed during a drug deal.
Purdie says he later approached Carter on campus with a rifle. Carter pulled out his own gun and that was the gun that wound up going off.
Purdie could not explain how Carter was shot nine times, and he left the scene immediately following the shooting.
New charges were added Thursday in addition to his Attempted Murder and Assault With a Deadly Weapon charges. He is also facing charges for Possession of Stolen Goods, Discharging a Weapon on Educational Property, and Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Sell. His bond is $1.1 million.
Carter’s condition is not known.
Purdie graduated from FSU earlier this year. Carter is a currect student at the school and plays football.
