RALEIGH, N.C. -- The temperature has hit at 90 or higher for 64 days so far this year in the Triangle. Year to date, that is the 8th most 90 degree days recorded in the Raleigh area and well above the average of 43 in an entire year. In Fayetteville, the high has been at 90 or hotter for 72 days.
We'll add at least two more days to those numbers over the next few days.
Highs will soar to near 90 over much of central North Carolina Wednesday afternoon and to the low 90s Thursday.

A cold front will slide toward North Carolina from the north by the end of the week. It will not bring much heat relief though. Friday afternoon's temperatures are forecast to reach the mid to upper 80s. The front will bring a higher chance for showers and storms late Friday afternoon and evening.
