DURHAM, N.C. -- Saturday night will be different for 22 children in the Bull City.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace teamed up with a number of community organizations to build bunk beds. The groups also delivered the beds to families in need.
The volunteers say there are children between the ages of three and 17 sleeping in unconventional ways. Members of the Durham police and fire departments rolled up their sleeves to help local church members build the beds.
“We're here to make sure they are comfortable, that they have a place to lay their heads in peace. That the angels of peace will surround them as they sleep on these beautiful comfortable beds,” volunteer Betty Smith said.
The beds were free to the families who qualified.
