DURHAM, N.C. -- Sheriff Clarence Birkhead announced a new initiative Friday at a news conference.
- The sheriff announced he's creating an advisory board
- The board will be charged with coming up with new plans to bridge the gap between residents and law enforcement
- You can pick up an application at the sheriff's office at the Durham County courthouse
He told reporters he's creating the Community Advisory Board. Twenty five selected residents will serve on it and meet quarterly.
"This is not me going into the community telling the community what we think they should do. This is me inviting the community to be part of the process," Birkhead said.
The board will be charged with coming up with new plans to bridge the gap between residents and law enforcement.
"What I'm looking for are ideas and suggestions of how we could build strong relationships, economic development, address nuisance issues not just crime," added Birkhead.
Applications are now open. You can pick one up at the sheriff's office at the Durham County courthouse.
