WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Winston-Salem City Council is one step closer to picking a new name for the Dixie Classic Fair.

The city council held a meeting Monday to discuss removing "Dixie" from the name because it has ties to slavery.
Some of the proposed names are the Dash Classic, The Tobacco City Classic, Carolina Foothills Fair and the Sweet Tea Classic Fair.
City officials plan to reveal the rebranding in October 2020 for the 2021 fair.

They're wroking with a consultant and asked the public for name suggestions.

Some of the proposed names are the Dash Classic, The Tobacco City Classic, Carolina Foothills Fair and the Sweet Tea Classic Fair.

City officials plan to reveal the rebranding in October 2020 for the 2021 fair.

Tuesday, they'll present a resolution for city council to move forward with hiring a marketing consultant to help rename the fair.
