NORTH CAROLINA -- A cold front is on the way and looks to bring some rain and some relief from the humidity to the Carolinas.

  • After a sunny morning, expect a mix of sun and clouds through a steamy afternoon
  • Highs will range from the low to upper 90s, but the heat index will reach the mid 90s to low 100s
  • The best timing for storms will fall between late afternoon and through the evening

Ahead of its arrival we'll continue to sweat through high heat and humidity. After a sunny morning, expect a mix of sun and clouds through a steamy afternoon. Highs will range from the low to upper 90s, but the heat index will reach the mid 90s to low 100s.

Based off the timing of the cold front, showers and storms will look to invade from Virginia and track south along with the front. The best timing for storms will fall between late afternoon and through the evening. Severe weather is not a concern but we cannot rule out an isolated strong storms with locally heavy rain and strong winds. So remember when thunder roars, get indoors! If you're close enough to hear thunder from a storm, you're close enough to be struck by lightning.

Behind tonight's cold front, weak high pressure and drier air will build in Monday. Expect a comfortably hot, sunny day Monday with highs near 90 for many. Sadly this more tolerable setting will be short lived. The weak high pressure will move offshore Tuesday, kick starting southerly winds that will cause the high heat and humidity to return. Highs will climb into the mid to upper 90s Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon.

Rain chances will also be on the rise during this time. We'll move from an isolated rain chance Tuesday to a more scattered rain threat Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is big because the 4th of July is this upcoming Thursday.

Based off the latest data, expect a few showers and storms mainly during he afternoon and early evening. The rain doesn't look to washout all of our holiday plans but I suggest have plans that incorporate the possibility of rain in your area. Have a plan B, indoor option to celebrate The 4th just in case.
