FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The All-American City is getting a new outdoor skate park valued at $1 million.
- Construction is set to begin this summer
- Residents in Fayetteville approved a $35 million parks and recreation bond in 2016
- Skateboarders say it will be a new place to gather since since a previous park closed in 2015
City leaders agreed to have the new attraction at Rowan Park. Construction is expected to begin this summer and end in the fall. City leaders have already hired a firm that also built a popular skate park in Apex.
The city had an indoor skate park which closed in 2015. Since then, skateboarders like Leneal Tony say they had to travel to other places.
"I think the biggest thing it's going to do is help us gather," Tony said. "There's going to be a local gathering place again. There really isn't a place for us to gather. It's a lot difficult for people to get on base and go to that skate park and the Hope Mills skate park."
Residents in Fayetteville approved a $35 million parks and recreation bond in 2016 which is funding the new skate park.
