RALEIGH, N.C. -- A number of events are happening across central North Carolina to honor our heroes on Memorial Day.
- Members and veterans of the Marine Corps will gather at the capital grounds in Raleigh, starting at 10:45 a.m.
- A ceremony is happening in Durham. That gets underway at 9 a.m. on the front steps of the Durham County administration building
- In the Fayetteville, children of fallen service members will run a memorial day 5k in honor of their parents
Members and veterans of the Marine Corps will gather at the capital grounds in Raleigh, starting at 10:45 a.m., to celebrate and recognize those who lost their lives fighting for our country.
There will be music, a wreath laying, and a special guest speaker.
Also in the Triangle, a ceremony is happening in Durham. That gets underway at 9 a.m. on the front steps of the Durham County administration building.
Everyone is invited out to the event.
Officials will hold a roll call for Durham County's more than 350 active duty service members who died at war.
And in the Fayetteville, children of fallen service members will run a memorial day 5k in honor of their parents.
Anyone wanting to attend to support them is asked to arrive at the Jordan Soccer Complex ahead of the race at 8:30 a.m. and wear blue.
In Downtown Raleigh, the historic Oakwood Cemetery will hold a ceremony for deceased veterans at the Veteran's Field of Honor at 4 p.m.
