JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. -- State highway patrol released dashcam video from a traffic stop where a trooper shot at an armed man after pulling him over for driving speeds approaching triple digits on Highway 70.

Johnston County district attorney Susan Doyle says the sergeant involved in the non-fatal shooting in April was justified for his use of force. The report outlines the April 4 traffic stop between Sgt. J.M. Dorsey and the driver Darius Rogers.

The district attorney says Sgt. Dorsey clocked Rogers driving 96 miles per hour on U.S. Highway 70 into Johnston County. The report also indicates that once Sgt. Dorsey pulled Rogers over, he noticed Rogers was unusually nervous and looking at the glove compartment.

Rogers said there was a gun in there and lunged for it even though Sgt. Dorsey gave commands like "don't do it" and "drop it" three times. Sgt. Dorsey shot at Rogers three times, hitting him in the back with every shot.

The report also shows that while emergency crews cared for Rogers, he kept apologizing saying, "I'm sorry. I did something stupid."

He was in the hospital for six days following the shooting.
