WAKE COUNTY, N.C. – A local “celebrity” wasn't able to make it to court in Durham Friday.

  • STAYUMBL was expected in court in Durham Friday for reckless driving charges.
  • She did not make it because she was detained in Wake County Thursday, also for reckless driving.
  • Her attorney was present, despite her absence.

Diana Mems, more commonly known as “STAYUMBL” because of the license plate on her car, was expected to go before a Durham County judge Friday to answer to numerous charges of reckless driving. However, she did not make it to Durham because she was detained after turning herself in in Wake County Wednesday to also answer to charges of reckless driving.

Both a Durham and Wake County judge took up cases against Mems Friday.

Mems is now officially charged with traffic violations. Her lawyer appeared in Durham on her behalf. The judge charged her with reckless driving, improper passing and impeding traffic.

Mems was unable to appear because she sat behind bars in Wake County in relation to another traffic violation.

The Wake County judge charged Mems with speeding and reckless driving. A $10,000 bond was issued and Mems was ordered to surrender her license.

But this is just a continuation of a story many locals have been clinging to for months, as Mems has earned notoriety online for being known as an infamously bad and aggressive driver. Many on social media believe Mems tries to get people to rear-end her, possibly for insurance money.

Videos and personal accounts posted to social media often show her being erratic, putting her car in reverse in traffic, and recording people for no comprehensible reason.

The saga seems to have started in 2016, when posts began to appear on Facebook of a beige Hyundai Tuscon with the "STAYUMBL" license plate driving erratically.

Anyone heard anything about this "STAYUMBL" post on Facebook?

Since then, Mems seems to have switched to a Silver Ford Focus with the same plate, and several accounts of run-ins with Mems have been reported on various social media, including one where she stopped in the middle of the road in front of a Durham school bus, got out and started recording the driver; this is the incident she was in court for Friday.

According to Durham police, she has been in more than 30 accidents since 2000 and they've received countless complaints about her from locals over the past several months.

However, it has been reported on social media that "STAYUMBL" is no longer Mems license plate. Durham Police could not confirm this, but a picture posted to Reddit seems to show Mem's Ford Focus with a regular North Carolina tag.

Mem's attorney has asked the public not to rush to judgement.

It has been reported on social media that Mems has now ditched the famous vanity plate for a regular one, but Durham County officials declined to confirm that. A photo posted by a user on Reddit seems to show Mem’s Ford Focus with a regular North Carolina
