NORTH CAROLINA -- Jessica Holmes has announced her candidacy for NC commissioner of labor in 2020.
- Democrat Jessica Holmes is currently the chairwoman of the Wake County Commission
- If she wins her primary, she will possibly take on Cherie Berry, who will need to win the Republican primary and has been the labor commissioner since 2001
- Holmes works as an education law attorney
She is the first Democratic candidate to announce for this office. Holmes is the current chairwoman of the Wake County Commission.
“It is time for workers to have a champion. I am ready to fight for livable wages, safe and healthy work environments, and family-friendly policies,” Holmes said in a statement. “North Carolina workers deserve an advocate that puts them first every day. We need to move beyond complacency to action on behalf of workers.”
Holmes works as an education law attorney and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and UNC-CH School of Law.
