WILSON COUNTY, N.C. – An investigation is underway in Wilson County after an officer-involved shooting.
Police say two officers were sitting in the parking lot of Calvary Pentecostal Church on Downing Street working on reports when they were approached by a 36-year-old Jason Woodall.
According to the department, Woodall assaulted one of the officers and advanced on them with a hammer. The officer who was assaulted opened fire on the suspect and struck him in the shoulder. He was taken to Vidant Medical Center where he was treated and released into police custody.
Woodall is charged with misdemeanor assault on an officer but is now out on bond.
The officer did not receive any medical treatment for his injury.
The SBI has been called in to investigate, as is standard procedure.
