NORTH CAROLINA -- Quite a few things going on with our weather today. An upper level low is moving gradually east across the region today while a surface low strengthens just off the Carolina coast. Both areas of low pressure are moving east and are the reason behind our cloudy setting.

Expect partly to mostly cloudy skies for central and eastern portions of the state. Rain associated with the offshore low will likely impact areas along and east of I-95. For the Greensboro-Triad area, expect partly sunny skies with no rainfall expected. With a mainly dry forecast and mild temperatures, that is good news for anyone trying to fire up the grill ahead of the SuperBowl this evening.

Despite the cloudier setting, temperatures will once again rise to above average levels in the upper 50s to low 60s. Skies will begin to clear tonight as high pressure looks to settle into the area Monday as the surface and upper low track east. With high pressure in the area Monday expect the return of sunshine to the area. This will allow temperatures to be slightly higher tomorrow than today. Highs Monday afternoon will likely range from the mid to upper 60s.

A cold front will advance towards the Carolinas Tuesday, ramping up a strong southerly wind flow. With southerly winds at the surface and higher up in the atmosphere, temperatures will soar into the 70s Tuesday afternoon before the front makes it way through Tuesday night.

Due to the front passing through Tuesday night, temperatures will dip Wednesday into the low 60s before warming back up into the 70s Thursday.
