ROBESON COUNTY, NC -- In a few weeks, the Robeson County sheriff will begin assigning cold cases for investigators to solve.

  • Sheriff Burnis Wilkins put together a team of retired law enforcement officers
  • Each person will be tasked with a case in hopes it's solved
  • The unit will also investigate missing person cases along with homicides

Sheriff Burnis Wilkins put together a team of retired law enforcement officers. Each person will be tasked with a case in hopes it's solved, and they'll be using better technology.

This comes as great news to Fairmont dad, Hubert Kissam, who lost his son, John Ross Kissam, in 2012. He was shot to death outside of his home and the killer is yet to be found.

"I hope there's justice for me, my family, and my son," Kissam said. "He deserves justice. I honestly believe Burnis will give me 100 percent of what he's got to help bring justice to him."

The unit will also investigate missing person cases along with homicides, some extending back to the 1970s.
