WAKE COUNTY, N.C. -- The Northern Wake Fire Department Captain Robert Nordman died Monday.
Family and friends say he was "upbeat, outgoing and defiant in his brave and valiant fight against cancer."
He served as captain of the fire department since October 2004 and was a veteran in the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife Robin, sons Michael and Johnathon, daughter Savannah Bartninkaitis and step-daughter Christina Sutton.
Nordman was 48.
