With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Baker takes the spot with around 55 percent of the vote.

Baker has said he decided to run because he felt the department was in need of serious reform.

Harrison conceded the race overnight saying, "Everything that we set in our campaign when we first started; reducing response time, putting more people on the roads, fighting drugs, safer schools... everything we have said has come across. We've had citizens well check program, Project Lifesaver, a camp for the kids. We've done everything that we said we would do. And I'm proud of that."

He said he is thankful for all of the support he's received throughout the years and wishes Baker the best as he starts the new role.

"I called him last night and congratulated him, told him whatever I could do to help him, I would be there. Whatever the team could do, we would all work together. I will show him anything or tell him anything he needs to know," said Harrison.

Baker celebrated his victory overnight, saying he was overwhelmed but excited to get started with the department.

"Citizens and voters were speaking. And they were saying that they had had enough of the leadership that was, that's currently in that office, and that they needed and wanted new leadership your Wake County Sheriff's Office," said Baker. "We're going to take a few days off, and celebrate. And we're going to jump right in. We're ready to go."

Baker is expected to be sworn in on December 3 and will take over the department in January.
