RALEIGH, N.C. -- More than 30 Raleigh firefighters rushed to put out a house fire Sunday afternoon.
- The fire likely started in the basement of the home on Baugh Street
- A man was able to escape but with scrapes and cuts
- Firefighters extinguished the house fire in only 20 minutes
The battalion chief says the fire likely started in the basement of the home on Baugh Street.
A man who lived in the home got himself out before the fire got too intense but he did come out of it with scrapes and cuts.
Before firefighters and first responders came, a neighbor rushed in to help the man with his injuries.
"There was an explosion, I heard an explosion, and then the smoke got more intense. It started coming out of the front door and the windows," said neighbor Kimberly Atkinson.
"They cut a hole, a 4 by 4 hole in the roof. Heat and gases rise, and once they cut a hole in the roof the heat and gases came out and made the conditions much better," said Battalion Chief Duffy Deyo.
Firefighters extinguished the house fire in only 20 minutes.
