FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Construction for phase one at Fayetteville Region Airport is almost halfway complete.
- Phase one of construction is complete
- Project is $35 million
- At the end of the project, Concourse A will have tripled in size
Upgrades have been underway since November 2017 for the first part of their $35 million project.
By July 2019, concourse A will have almost tripled in size. It'll be two stories tall and seat 125 people compared to 50 it did in years past.
Construction for phase two of the project starts November 2019 to renovate and modernize the airport. That is expected to be completed in 2022. That project will bring new bathrooms, a new lobby, front entrance and TSA checkpoint.
Once that's complete, Fayetteville Region Airport director, Bradley Whited, said there will be a new restaurant coming called Tailwind.
"We will have provisions for tables to be out here with iPads," Whited said. "You can order food and swipe a card to pay and they'll deliver the food to you."
Whited said he hopes the construction project will increase the airport's yearly 500,000 passengers.
