RALEIGH, N.C. – The Sears store at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh is among those slated to close later this year.

  • Crabtree Mall store is only North Carolina location closing.
  • Store will close in November.
  • The closing will leave just two Sears stores in Raleigh-Durham.

Sears Holdings announced Wednesday that 46 unprofitable Sears and Kmart stores are being shuttered across the country.

The Crabtree store is expected to begin liquidation sales in the coming weeks and be fully closed in November.

The Sears Auto Center at Crabtree will close in late September.

The mall released the following statement: “Crabtree Valley Mall ownership was recently notified of Sears’ intent to close its store at the mall, effective November 25, 2018. We proactively negotiated the purchase of this property in April, 2018 to be prepared in the event of an announcement such as this one. Crabtree Valley Mall will redevelop this area to create an exciting new environment benefitting consumers throughout the Triangle and beyond. Additional details will be released at a later date.”

The closure will leave two Sears stores in the Raleigh-Durham area: One in Raleigh at Triangle Town Center and another in Durham at the Streets of Southpoint.

The Sears at Cary Towne Center closed in January 2015.
