DURHAM, N.C. -- Durham Congregations in Action is asking the public for donations to help supply breakfast and lunch to local public school students.

  • Durham Public Schools will be closed May 16
  • Many students depend on free school lunch and breakfast
  • To donate visit DCIA.org

On May 16, many Durham Public School students will be unable to have breakfast and lunch at school due to thousands of teachers going to Raleigh.

The teachers will be calling for state legislature to provide adequate funding for public schools. As a result, Durham Public Schools will be closed.

However, closing the schools means that many students will be depending on free breakfast and lunch each day school is in session.

On May 15, Durham Congregations in Action is hoping to send a bag with breakfast and lunch home with each student unable to get meals the next day.

The organization is asking for donations to help supply these meals. A donation of $20 will provide breakfast and lunch for five students.
