SAWMILLS, N.C. -- Brendan Marshall Withers, 25, has been arrested after a shooting occurred overnight on Cannon Drive in Caldwell County. 

• Withers is accused of kidnapping 3 men in Hickory and bringing them to a field in Caldwell County.
• Deputies say Withers shot one of the victims 5 times before fleeing into the woods.
• Withers says the men had sent him naked pictures of his wife.

The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Friday.

Deputies say Withers kidnapped three men from Hickory and drove them to a field in Caldwell County. 

One of the victims was shot five times before Withers ran off into the woods.

Withers says he didn't mean to shoot the victim, and says he is sorry for the incident. 

When asked why he took the actions he did, Withers claims to be schizophrenic and off of his medication.

The victim was treated on the scene and was then transferred to MedCenter Air for transport to an area trauma center. His condition is unknown.
