CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. -- Some Lumbee tribe members say they're still fighting to be able to wear decorative stoles at high school graduation in May.
The Cumberland County Board banned the Native American tradition back in November, but has now come to a compromise.
Now, students will be allowed to wear colored cords instead.
Some still aren't satisfied with the decision and are saying they earned the stoles.
"As students in the Native American community, we have to complete at least three community service projects, whether that's donating blankets to the homeless, making mats for them, or donating food, we really try to give back to the community," said Lumbee tribe member Cheyenne Strickland.
The school board is paying for the cords the Lumbee students will be allowed to wear at graduation.
