CARY, N.C. -- Despite pushback from some parents, Wake County’s newly constructed Buckhorn Creek Elementary School will remain on a traditional calendar year.

Many in the Holly Springs community wanted the board to make the new school a year-round school, which is the same track many of the students headed there already experience.

Parents unhappy with Tuesday night's vote say they now face a tough decision on where to send their children.

“Our community may be unique in our desire for year round, but we’re not unique to the board,” said Holly Grove parent Amanda Liimatainen. “So for any parents that might be paying attention to schools being opened in their areas, look for the calendar shifts to come.”

Tuesday night’s vote finalizes Wake County’s 2018-19 student assignment plan after it was only partially voted on at their last meeting.
