RALEIGH - For 32 years, WakeMed has been ringing in the holidays with a special tree lighting.
The Love Light tree ceremony recognizes a former pediatric patient who overcame the odds with the help of WakeMed.
"It's a great way to remember folks who have been cared for. It's also a great way to remember caregivers. Our nurses our doctors our volunteers and to celebrate the care we give," said Brad Davis, Executive Director of the WakeMed Foundation.
This year 14-year-old, Stanton Divine, and his family were recognized.
Divine was hit by a car in September 2016 near North Hills in Raleigh.
Doctors at the hospital put him in a medically induced coma for days and his family credits WakeMed for saving his life.
"Our care here was second to none. It was incredible," said Stanton's father, David.
"It makes you appreciate life and family and you don't take the small things for granted anymore," said Kelly Divine, Stanton's mom.
Love Light also includes ornament decorating, cookies, hot chocolate, a screening of Frosty the Snowman, and of course a visit with Santa.
All donations from the Love Light ceremony benefits the Children's Hospital at WakeMed.
