RALEIGH -- Blue skies cover the Triangle Thursday while visitors from the past pay a visit for The Wings of Freedom Tour in Raleigh this weekend at Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Warbirds that served a country landed Thursday in the heart of the triangle. First to arrive, the b-17 bomber.
In all of its majesty, it landed to the delight of World War II pilot Robert Taylor.
"That jet right there, when he takes off, he climbs at 3,000 feet a minute. We climbed at about 500 feet a minute. So, you see there's just a vast, vast difference in aircraft today and what we flew," Taylor said.
Audre is the last remaining flying B-24 in the world.
