HIGH POINT -- Thousands of people are in Triad this week for the bi-annual High Point Market which is the largest furnishings industry trade show in the world.
When it comes to interior design trends that are hot this year, HGTV design director says the big theme she is seeing for 2017 is “opposites attract.”
HGTV Design Director Nancy Fire revealed the biggest four trends for 2017:
Reds and teals:
- Lots of black and white with an accent of color. "You are going to see lots of red going forward, you are going to see a lot of warm colors and a lot of these warm red on red," said Fire. "Another color combination you are going to see are teals. Our partner in crime, Sherwin Williams, announced the color of the year is, 'Ocean' which is a teal combination."
Round and soft furniture:
- Trends are moving away from big and bulky and going toward round and soft. "I am seeing it become a lot more rounded. If you walk to Market right now you are going to see a lot of furniture is still square and bulky, but going forward for 2018 and 2019 we are going to see a softness of furniture."
Boho is back:
- Fire said Boho has been happening for a while, but it is big at market right now. "It's so nice because you are seeing lots of color, you are seeing tone on tone and texture and you are seeing ideas and motifs being built on top of each other which brings a lot of dimension into the home."
Mix in materials:
- Consumers are going to see more wood and metals being mixed. "Something you are going to see more and more of are wooden cabinets, but there is going to be a contrast of substrates so there's a contrast between wood and metal; so you are going to see this combination of opposites attracting not so much matching any more."
