ROLESVILLE, N.C. -- As a viral video of an incident at a Wake County high school continues to make national headlines, Rolesville police are interviewing students, teachers and others about the moments before and after the student resource officer slammed the female student to the ground.
While Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison is asking people not to jump to conclusions, a Triangle attorney says the action seems excessive.
"Students will hurt you just as quickly as anybody on the street. So don't get me confused, but you know those students most of the time, because you have a rapport with them, sometimes you can deescalate it, sometimes you can't," said Sheriff Harrison, Wake County.
"If you're a random parent, and the video came out of you doing that to your child, you'd be charged with child abuse, you know, so it's something we all just have to monitor and see what happens," said Durham Attorney T. Greg Doucette.
The officer in the video remains on paid administrative leave as the SBI and Rolesville police continue their investigations.
