NATIONWIDE -- Get ready for a warm welcome the next time you shop at Walmart.

The nation's largest retailer is bringing back its greeter position.

The greeters stands at the door, welcoming arriving customers and answering questions.

Walmart says it expects to fill about 9,000 of these new hourly positions, but it won't use the same staffing model at all stores.

Instead, it will study data on safety, security and shoplifting losses to guide it on how best to staff its entrances.

In some stores, greeters will start checking receipts of shoppers leaving the store to curb shoplifting.
