HOUSTON -- The United States Postal Service released its annual dog attack report on Wednesday. Findings reveal a total of 6,549 USPS employees were attacked in 2015, an increase from 2014's total of 5,767.

According to the report, the top city for attacks in 2015 was Houston, with a total of 77 cases. Charlotte came in 23rd on the list, with a total of 22 attacks, a slight drop from 2014's total of 23. Last on the list is New Orleans, Omaha, Des Moines and Toledo, all with only 15 attacks for 2015.

The list included 51 cities on a top 30 list.

USPS released their numbers as part of National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which kicks off Sunday, May 15.

The company also announced two new measures they will take to protect employees. Those include asking customers to indicate if there is a dog present when scheduling a package pickup and having mail carriers indicate which homes have dogs to help fill-in carriers not familiar with a route.
