MORRISVILLE -- Millions are taking to the road and the skies across the country for the holiday season. Hundreds of thousands are expected to pack the concourse at RDU Airport from now until Monday.
"So if you are traveling during that time, we recommend you get to the airport at least two hours early," said RDU spokesperson Mindy Hamlin.
The weather has been the biggest challenge. There have been several flight delays, mostly centered around New York City and Philadelphia.
"It's alright. It is what it is, right," said passenger Kyle Witherspoon, whose flight to Canada was delayed.
Airport officials are also asking people to pack their patience, as long lines at the security gates are expected.
"We are still at the highest levels of security that we have been for many years. We have a strong police presence, as always. We're working very closely with the TSA. What passengers should know is that there are restrictions on what passengers can take through the airports," said Hamlin.
