This summer students are beating the summer heat by taking their fun indoors.
"This is kind of new thing I'm branching out to, to see if I like it," said 11th grader Rhett Acosta.
Rhett Acosta is gearing up for 11th grade, his mom signed him up for the one week camp that's all about video game engine programming.
"She wanted me to do something educational so she made me come here and I think it's pretty cool," added Acosta.
From programming and development to design. Dozens are making a game come to life from scratch.
"We're learned how to code and create games," Acosta said.
Wake Tech offers courses like this to students all year round. Art, 3D modeling, video and sound editting are just a few of the subject taught on campus.
They say the program is specifically designed to go hand in hand with the fast growing gaming industry.
"The simulation game development program at Wake Tech speaks directly to the industry and the industry is part of our advisory board. We use the tools they use and we try to make sure the skills we teach are actionable for the jobs [students] want to apply for in the future," said Steven Espinosa, the instructor for the Video Game Engine Programming camp.
So whether students want to persue a career in the gaming field or just enjoy this as a hobby for the summer, this camp has the potential to spark interest in a career of computer science.
"The tools they're learning here are actually free to download at home. I like to give them resources at camp so they can still persue it," Espinosa said.
This is just one of many week-long camps Wake Tech is offering this summer. Some of the other campus include website development and youth entrepeneurship.
