RALEIGH -- The North Carolina Museum of History will be getting a much needed face lift after nearly 21 years.
The state has budgeted over one million dollars to begin planning massive renovations to the museum.
The museum will also be expanding by adding more exhibit space and possibly a fourth floor.
Additional space is not the only need for the museum. A portion of the project's budget will go to fixing infrastructure issues.
The museum reported heating and air conditioning system problems could damage artifacts.
The state must submit an updated planning proposal and budget by this fall.
