RALEIGH- Each year, more than 80,000 people in cities across the United States participate in PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, pancreatic cancer deaths surpassed breast cancer deaths in 2016, becoming the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S.
Right now, there is no effective screening method and few effective treatment options. And only 9 percent of those diagnosed will survive 5 years. So it's important we all act now on behalf of current and future pancreatic cancer patients.
The Wage Hope at PurpleStride Raleigh-Durham is a walk/run to end pancreatic cancer. PurpleStride Raleigh-Durham is one of 55 awareness events held by the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network throughout the country this year. Each year, more than 80,000 people in cities across the United States participate in PurpleStride, the walk to end pancreatic cancer. The 5K walk/run events raise funds for the organization’s key initiatives, including Precision PromiseSM, Know Your Tumor® and the Patient Registry.
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network has raised over $87 million for the cause through community events from 2008 to 2016, but much work needs to be done to find a detection for pancreatic cancer.
PurpleStride Raleigh-Durham will be held on Saturday, April 29th, uniting the community while raising awareness and support for the fight against pancreatic cancer. This year participants can join the 5K run or family friendly walk at North Carolina State University – Centennial Campus Oval.
