RALEIGH -- Joseph Mitchell's not guilty verdict has many people fired up.
A Durham jury acquitted Mitchell on Wednesday in the 2010 death of his four-year-old son, Blake.
Mitchell claimed he was sleepwalking when he suffocated his son, while the prosecution argued financial stress was behind it all.
Many people expressed their opinions on social media.
“Being on the outside, it's always impossible to know, if a guilty person is getting a not guilty verdict and if a not guilty person is getting a guilty verdict, but the criminal justice system is not a perfect thing,” said Mitchell Moore, a juror.
Jurors wanted to consider a manslaughter charge, but the judge said no.
They say they had no choice but to find Mitchell not guilty because the prosecution never proved intent and malice.
